Tribute to Tsunami Victims
Tribute to Tsunami Victims

I created this piece at my home in St Kilda, Melbourne Australia, while watching a TV news special on around Christmas time 2006, when there were so many lives lost in Thailand from a huge tsunami wave that wiped out and destroyed everything in its path. Even though I felt like I was simply doodling and not paying any particular attention to what I was creating, the more I look at this piece, the more I recognise a picture of freedom from care and pain, a most unusual contrast to the devastation that occurred with aso many lives lost... A deep peacefulness and calm can be felt, as the central figure's golden brown face is surrounded by a red heart, a blue heart -- each heart connecting to a white glove that adds a sense of mystery, magic and transformation to the scene. Above, it is almost as though the burgeoning wave has grown so high as to reach the sun, as the blue-green wave appears in the shape of a corwn that lifts the tsunami victim to greater heights, to emerge from the depths and merge with the bright rays of the sun from above. How close are the forces of dark and light in our lives, how we see it makes all the difference!
